OS installed on the hd, so you cannot swap drives with bigger ones. This NAS is useless; cannot access from internet through http/s; it's noisy.

I now can access all my data from internet, backup up to 10 PCs, and a lot of features.
Iomega was willing to replace the drive as long as I did not attempt to recover the data (by placing the individual drives in a computer). I set the box for mirroring. My drive failed within the warranty period. So its a matter of choosing my data or a replacement drive. I don't think it is a valid choice.
The transaction was one of the best that I have experienced with Amazon, and that's not a knock on Amazon. The item was delivered ahead of expectation and it was packaged perfectly. Thanks J&R and thanks to Amazon.
Great product--sets up easily and performs well, with a reasonably small footprint. It's a little loud and it requires a password to log into the drive, even if you don't want to use one.Each time one of my systems is rebooted, I have to access the drive again with a userid/password. Mirroring works great. Only two nit dislikes. That userid/password does not have to be used again until the next reboot, but it is annoying to have to use one.I should say that I have a home LAN with a very limited user population--I am really the only one really using the server. The access control would work great for shared storage with multiple users and a need for privacy.

There aren't many functions to use or settings to change. If you're only looking for basic NAS functionality, then this unit will do the job. Support on the device is horrible. The types of speeds are you seeing are common for the environment you are working in. A lot of space is chewed up by the system.
I tried working with them to get the network speed issue figured out, and they were terrible. The Gigabit speed is only the the theorhetical speed and in reality, speeds such as you are getting are common for a gigabit connection with this device."In other words, 130 MBps is about all you will get out of the unit by design. The web interface is clunky and sparse. I bet there are other units out there that offer more, and don't even think about it if you have a small business.UPDATE: After a horrific experience with IOMEGA support, they sent me an email follow-up that was partly apologetic and explains the network speed. For the pair of 500GB drives, I have them in Raid 1 (mirrored) and have only 454GB available.3.
Gigabit is in name only. Here's an excerpt from the note:".this particular device does not have a extremely fast processor or large amount of RAM because these are designed for a specific market, and will not get the same speed you would get transferring to a full server. I'm going to leave my rating at 3 stars, since it's a reasonable amount of mirrored storage for the price, but I doubt I'll be shopping IOMEGA in the future.
